There is a lot of work to be done and so i have been working my growing butt off :0
There are a few projects that i have been working on simultaneously, so let me fill you in.
For starters the Folio Society Competition. The premise: create 3 illustrations and a cover for "War Horse" by Michael Morpurgo by mid January. After days of text analyzing, concept sketching, as well as extensive and pretty depressive research of WW1 pictures, it all finally came together to something i can truly call my own. So here is my take on the story:
Told from the perspective of a horse, the story unravels during WW1. I very much enjoyed the text but stumbled on taking the literal into visual for a little while simply because i didnt know what should i focus on. Call me the drama queen but at the end of the day, i decided to stick to what i know best -feelings. And so my illustrations are evocative of the emotional aspect of the story. Next step are the finished pieces.
Then there is the Spectrum Competition ( best in fantastical art ). For that i have been working on a few things. Firstly are my kooky sculptures with digital backgrounds. The latest one is Baba Klava who finally came off the pages of one of my sketchbooks:
And then there are the Russian Folk Tale inspired illustrations for which i have asked a few of my friends to either dedicate me some time at their home or come over and model for me. One of them was particularly inspiring and so here is my preliminary sketch of what might turn into a series on its own:
Edita, thank you!
So ...... i think this is it for the moment anyway. I need to sow the Baba Klava's outfit and finalize the sketches for Spectrum... and get to work which pays the bills!
Tootles!!
p.s. just some recent face studies
